MSW Student Intern

Hello! My name is Rye Roberts, I am a student at the University of Michigan School of Social Work working towards my Master of Social Work. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Psychology, with a special focus in LGBTQ+ studies.
Before my master’s program, I spent a great deal of my time developing community based events for LGBTQ+ students on campus, as well as engaging in as many resource sharing opportunities as possible. I know the most about transgender resources local to Ann Arbor/Michigan, but I am always eager to learn more! Never hesitate to ask 🙂
I was drawn to social work from a young age, remembering a strong passion for mental health advocacy sprouting at just eleven years old. As time passed, what I thought was just a passion for mental health evolved into a passion for all things social justice; sexual health, gender expression, queer equity, systemic prejudice, the list could go on.
As I’ve grown into myself as a queer transmasc navigating my own experiences with trauma, I am developing my social work practice to be as holistic as possible. I feel as though the most important thing to know when it comes to each client is the importance of their own complex individualities! I have a specific interest in developing my skills working with clients with C-PTSD, clients looking to explore their expressions via gender/sex/sexuality, histories of people pleasing or parentification, and clients experiencing grief.
This world is incredibly complicated, and I am committed to creating a space where that’s okay to say. I look forward to potentially working with you in the future!
