Alan Fields (he/him), MSW Intern

University of Michigan Class of 2026

My journey into therapy comes from my personal experiences with depression and trauma, which have fueled my passion for advocating mental health equity. Having faced discrimination myself, I understand how it can lead to increased stress, anxiety, and feelings of worthlessness, which can significantly impact one’s overall well-being. These experiences have deepened my understanding and strengthen my desire to create places where everyone feels safe and valued.

I believe that everyone, regardless of their background, deserves compassionate and competent care. This conviction has been reinforced by my training and experience working in public defense at both the county and federal levels, where I was committed to addressing systematic inequalities related to race, gender, sexual orientation, economic status, and disability. I believe giving a platform to marginalized voices, will help to build welcoming spaces that support all kinds of communities.
